From what you write, the files in that folder may be corrupt - where did you get them from?

Then I download RealTek AC'97 drivers, and the sound worked but "no audio device". I can get it to work when using WinAmp, and Windows plays the opening and closing sounds, but Windows Media Player doesn't have sound and neither does iTunes. No Active Mixer. it seems i have the right driver, since i'm able to hear sound from windows media player, but no sound from flv player! I've corrected and reinstalled machine.inf and swenum (Drivers) respectively, again, no avail. I keep on getting an error message saying there is a problem with the driver I'm trying to install....
