Basically, whenever they tried to run a check for updates, they would get the following error message: Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. Even after these fixes I have seen some W7 PC's take up to an hour to finish checking for updates if launched from Control Panel manually. I put in a new harddrive loaded windows 7 x64 and tried to run updates and it didnt work. I tried pretty much everything and still doesn't work.
