I have this issue since I installed Windows 7 64bit, previously with Windows Vista everything was fine. I have been praising win7 all along but this issue has certainly left a sour taste in my mouth. I ran the battery down in BIOS and booted my old XP partition. on the default "balanced" configuration. According to Microsoft this is bug in Windows 7 latter on fixed by Microsoft and some of the update will remove the error, I don't know exactly what that single update look at this site

When this happens you should plug in the power cable but DO NOT turn back on the laptop. even after a complete drain/charge.Good job Microsoft, you just cost me (and almost all windows 7 laptop owners) their battery!! Fix "Consider Replacing Your Battery" Problem in Windows 7, Windows 8 Click the battery icon in the lower right corner of your Windows laptop and click ‘More power options’. Sometimes I did leave it plugged in depending on the intensity of what I was using it for at the time. since the BIOS and battery driver updates are not the culprit with this issue, i guess Microsoft should have a look at it. my acer 8930G shuts down at %40 power.
